Day 1: Colosseum, Palatine Hill and Roman Forum
The Colosseum was the largest amphitheater of ancient Rome. The standard ticket gives one entry to the Colosseum and one to the Roman Forum and Palatine area, and the Colosseum needs a reserved time slot, so book on the official site before you go. On the Palatine, look for the Palatine Stadium, a long stadium-shaped garden beside the imperial palaces, then walk down into the Forum past the Basilica Iulia. Finish at the Circus Maximus, the open valley where chariot races were held.
